4 November 2021 : Alice Mara Ceramics

Artist Alice Mara produces three dimensional house portaits (sculptures?) with the distinctive feature that they are ceramic. Which gives them a unique soft and flowing character. On the left an interpretation of a traditional yet unconventional London house ( I think this is it!) produced on commission for the owner. But on the right, a much more ambitious piece turning the Brutalist style Trellick Tower in Kensal Green into a vase. Truly a unique miniature building. Lots more of Alice's work on her Instagram site.

3 November 2021 : Temple

Something very different this morning.   A temple made out of polymer clay and terracotta.  It's 15.7 inches high which by my reckoning makes it something like 1/25 scale.  It was made as part of a school project by either Deepika or Chitra who post on Instagram as soulfuel.cd

31 October 2021 : New Article: Simon Williams

I mentioned the work of Simon Williams a couple of weeks ago. A fuller article about him is published today.

30 October 2021 : Occasional Furniture

Miniature Buildings need miniature furniture and this piece by Michael Mortimer caught my eye this morning. As discussed in my scale or effect article I'm not usually a fan of real wood in scale models but Michael's use here of tulipwood ( the 'real' Brazilian hardwood, not the pale American Tulipwood) has produced a really effective result. Lovely work.

24th October 2021 : The 3D World

Take a look at this site from an outfit called Turbosquid. They sell virtual 3D models. Not quite the same as having a tangible object in front of you but the world of the future.

23rd October 2021 : Simon Garfield

This is hardly hot news but I have only just come across it. Simon is the author of In Miniature, how small things illuminate the world, which is on my Christmas book list. In this short video, posted by Waterstones way back in 2018, Simon talks about his enthusiasms.

22nd October 2021 : Pinterest

Google searches often lead me to Pinterest. This is one page, from Patricia Aldric, which is a gold mine for those of us who love Miniature Buildings.

19th October 2021 : Chisel and Mouse

I stumbled onto this company via Instagram. Someting very different that I should look into. They do all white buildings but also produce cityscapes.

17th October 2021 : Rothenburg

We visited Rothenburg during a recent trip to Southern Germany. A pretty town, obsessed it seems with miniature buildings. Multipe shops with window displays full of models of all shapes and sizes.

I say 'all shapes'.  Mainly cute German houses.

16th October 2021 : The Pickwick Line

Ben, the creator of the Pickwick Line, is one of my favourite modellers. This is his latest model, the Spread Eagle.
